Valentines & Triathlon

Valentines
A time for love
A time for caring
A time for sharing
A time for… wait, I’m gonna be sick…

I’m not a big one for all the mushy stuff on valentines. I’m pretty sure my wife, after 13 years, isn’t either, but now we are in Tri mode perhaps we can “celebrate” in another way.

If you’re also not into all the extra presents, extra money, overpriced dinners…the list goes on, maybe you should give Triathlon a go? No, not a sordid love triangle you understand, but maybe an opportunity to share the outdoors with your loved one or join a tri club and meet another like minded individual. After all, if you do meet somewhere like that at least you’ll know you have something in common, a weird obsession for trainers, bikes and the latest wetsuit amongst other technical geekery chat that befall an excitable triathlete such as nutrition or where they got their giant tub of crunchy peanut butter.

Most people I’ve spoken to, do seem to get a little over enthusiastic when you start talking about triathlon with another three sport obsessed “lunatic” as my wife keeps telling me, so it’s definitely a good ice breaker!

So this year on Valentines, how about getting out there with your loved one. Go for a swim. Jump on your bikes or dive in at your local pool and look forward to a romantic hot tub or sauna after you’ve punished each other swimming a few laps. And if you really love them, the way to every triathletes heart is through some tri gear. Get them some trainers. Buy some earplugs (not to drown out the geek chat you understand, but to save your ears for later in life!) or by some anti chaffing cream, again, purely for the after affects of a ride and run following a swim of course.

Or, do something they’ll really love… Brighton and Hove Triathlon are offering love birds a special deal if you enter before the 15th of Feb. Check it out here.

Happy Valentines, however you spend it and special thanks to my wifey for putting up with my weird obsession with shoes, bikes & wetsuits!!
