What fuels you?

Me and the TriPals have been trying out the nutritional goodness from Ollybars over the last few weeks.
Whilst I’m not a nutritionist, so I can’t give you the stats and figures on how good these bars are, I can tell you how they’ve affected me!
Aside from the mouth watering flavours of peanut butter and choc chip and banana brunch (my two favourite flavours in life!) and the all day breakfast, the OllyBars have become part of my training regime.

The first thing you notice when sinking your teeth into these bad boys is that they’re not a “damp squib” of a nutritional bar. So often with health bars, they either taste rough, or are all kind of melted together and feels like you’re just eating mush. Doesn’t really leave a great impression in your hungry mouth and typically leaves you feeling like you’re wanting more! Not the OllyBars. A number of my TriPals that have also been testing them out agree that it feels not only like you’ve got a solid chew to get through it, but that you have actually just eaten something and it’s filling the void you desired! Result.

I’ve been using them in training and also in daily life when I haven’t always been able to make myself a healthy snack, so when I’m out for a day of meetings with work. And they’ve kept me going. I’ve got a fairly good diet anyway, but these bars are a great top up or fuel when I need it!

I’ll give you an example of how I’ve been devouring them… yesterday, I was setting off for a run / swim / run, so knew I’d need my energy, especially on the return leg of the last run.

Waking up late, I didn’t have time for my normal pre exercise porridge brekkie, so choked down on the All Day Breakfast bar. It kept me going for the 6km run and into my swim just great. Out of the pool, trainers donned, I ripped open my favourite, the peanut choc chip bar and in the walk out of the pool managed to get it all down into my belly. The 6km home was hard, but that’s my training and it was into a ice cold north easterly headwind, but, I actually ran my average kilometre pace faster than on my way out first thing.

I’m not saying it’s purely down to those bars, of course it’s not, BUT, I did feel I had the energy in me to keep me going for my morning training. Without shovelling all sorts of bad things into my mouth to keep me going.

So, the OllyBars – a massive thumbs up from TriPals!
