Let’s get back to it in 2016

Tripal, I have a confession to make.
After a burst of training fuelled by the initial excitement of signing up , I have to admit my training regime has suffered in the perpetual darkness of late November/December.
While you’ve been out smashing PBs and cycling through hurricanes I’ve been hibernating; SSSHHHHHing anyone who dared to mention triathlon and giving withering looks to the people who breezily asked ‘how’s your training going?’. My excuses were varied and plentiful. It’s too dark…I can’t get away from the kids….I’m hungover after a Christmas night out…..I have more presents to wrap….I’ve had too much to eat…I’ve not eaten enough to train….blah blah blah.
So here it is. 1 January 2016. T minus 253 days. Time to kickstart training. And I’m excited!
A three pronged approach is what I need (you know me and lists).
Number 1, ditch the vices. I’m a mother of three tiny people, I don’t have many vices these days, but a less than perfect diet and a glass of wine as soon as the kids are in bed definitely need to change. I need to research training diets before I spend my whole food bill on fruit and veg and find it in February rotting in liquidy gloop in the fruit bowl. And a dry January here we come. Yay.
Number 2, join the Brighton tri club. Tripal has an extremely glamorous job which involves jetting off far and wide so I need some extra motivation and some fallback triathlon buddies. Tripal is in the US/Canada for 2 weeks this month then having a baby next month so I can’t make him my sole motivation for getting out the door.
Number 3. Plan. Write a proper training plan that’s achievable yet geared towards the results and times I want to start getting.
Right, off to research diets and training. Whilst not having a large glass of wine. Happy new year!
