Ok so it’s not quite winter yet, but the weather is turning, the clock turned back and most of us are setting our training plans for the 2018 season, with a few races dotted through the winter months.
But is it just me or is it easier to train in autumn / winter? Sure, I’d rather be in my horts and a vest, and sleeveless wetsuit (or no wetsuit!) but there’s something pretty invigorating about getting out there when a gale is blowing, the rain is coming in sideways and you’ve caked your legs in mud. It adds to the experience.
The warm shower afterwards. The knowledge that half your village/town/city probably hasn’t left their houses all day. The pride in the fact you got out there and actually achieved something great. All those things are good drivers to get out there. But also, more practically thinking… summer is more busy! More beach days. More bbq’s. More play time. More chill time. Generally just more time because of the longer days of light and the warmer weather to enjoy it in. For me, it makes it pretty tough to train sometimes!
So how about you?
Spring / Summer or Autumn / Winter. Which do you prefer?
