Planning to train for a triathlon, can be really difficult. I work, have a family and no.2 child on the way (and still surf as much as possible). My TriPal has three little nippers and a husband who’s training for a marathon.
How are you supposed to fit in training time?
So, we agreed that we’d do whatever we could on days when we couldn’t train together and then at least once a week try to get out together on either the bike / run / swim.
I’m fitting them in before work, during lunch and after boy no.1 has gone to bed. Makes it a long day!
So our first effort together was a 5km loop of the South Downs near where we live. It was looking like it was going to be a lovely evening for it…until… the sideways rain appeared out of nowhere.
It was definitely envigorating and we also saw a rainbow over the route infront of us, pretty cool… but it was tricky too! Having that sideways rain nail you like a toddler throwing all of their bricks at you once and not being able to duck out of the way pretty much summed up how the first 10 minutes felt. The last 20 minutes or so, felt like I was an alligator with iceskates on a frozen pond. Or maybe a fish out of water… anologies aside, the grass was so slippery, it was hard to keep on track heading down the Tye.
Either way, we did it. We wanted to set a bar for where we can improve on and that was done.
