First SeaSwim

So I’m pretty confident in the sea. I’ve been brought up sailing it, I went and taught people to windsurf/surf/sail/kitesurf in it, I was a lifeguard for it and more recently, I’ve been SUPing on it, so it’s fair to say I’m pretty confident in the water.

My TriPal is a good swimmer, but wants to build her confidence up in getting out into the sea more (it’s a sea swim for our tri – not a lake) and as every day it can be different here, especially on the south coast, we thought we better make the most of it, before it becomes too bloody cold!

So the first sea swim, since signing up for the tri, took place a few weeks ago in probably flattest conditions I’ve seen it in months. Wetsuits donned, goggles on…off we went. Even in late September, the ever so slight brainfreeze we developed for what was a relatively short swim felt like it was trying to gnaw its way into my skull! Do they do heated swim caps?!

We got to just about 1km when TriPal swallowed a mouthful of mother natures finest English Channel grossness and thought we should call it a day.

I started to swim back up to steps further up the beach to get abit more distance, but the tide was pushing pretty strong by this point, so opted for the easy exit.

Not bad for the first swim together. Onto the pool next for some practice on getting the right strokes in.
