So my blog has taking a slightly different turn as I lead into our Tri with only 5 more sleeps. Following my chat with Emily’s sister (who spurred me to doing this tri) I also spoke with Ems mom, Anne, to help raise awareness for the hospital charity that I’m fundraising for.
If you would like to support this amazing hospital, please do via my JG page at www.justgiving.com/mytry
I realise these words are incredibly difficult for these lovely ladies to put together, but I didn’t only want to raise funds for Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals Charity, I wanted to raise awareness of what they do as well, so you can see the positive affect that this amazing charity can have.
I’m not going to lie, I shed a tear reading this too. Sorry if it makes your bottom lip wobble.
What does Harefield mean to you?
An extraordinary place where extraordinary humans work tirelessly to literally save lives and restore children to their parents, parents to their children and partners to their spouses. It doesn’t always work. We have been blown away by the highs when they literally gave us our wonderful daughter back in 2007 and suffered the unbearable lows when we lost her in 2014 but we know that everything possible was done to save Em and that gives us great comfort.
If you could sum up Harefield in one word, what would it be and why?
Extraordinary
Why is it important to raise money for the hospital?
This small and unpretentious hospital quietly works miracles every day. It was a place of sanctuary and hope for Em when she was ill knowing that it could literally be the place that could saveher life. When she needed a second transplant nearly 2 years ago everyone in the hospital was behind her, everyone seemed not just to know her but to know her story too. When she fell ill in 2014, if a donor had come along sooner Em might have made it but in the dangerous weeks that we waited we saw the pain etched so deeply on our faces reflected back by the incredible team at Harefield who care so much about their patients. We know what they can do when people are brave enough to tell their loved ones that they are happy to donate their organs but miracles can’t happen without that key ingredient.
In December 2015 we walked away from Harefield totally devastated cuddling a little girl who had just lost her gorgeous, funny, clever and beautiful mummy. Our strength to go on was helped enormously by the fact that Harefield do not give up until they have tried everything humanly possible taking advice from experts all over the world. It really is an extraordinary place.
Thank you Anne xxxx
